Why are your eggs brown?
The color of an eggshell is determined by the breed of the chicken that laid it. Chickens with white feathers and earlobes typically lay white eggs, while chickens with red feathers and earlobes generally lay brown eggs. We raise Isa Browns, a cold hardy, heavy egg layer that is, you guessed it, brown!
Different breeds of chickens are known for laying eggs of specific colors. For example, Leghorn chickens are known for laying white eggs, while Rhode Island Reds and Sussex chickens often lay brown eggs. There are also chickens that lay eggs with blue or green shells. The color of the eggshell doesn't affect the nutritional content or taste of the egg; it's mainly a result of the pigments in the chicken's body. The nutritional content and taste are affected by what the chickens eat.
