The Beginning of Goldfinch Farm

Goldfinch Farm was incorprated in 2023 by Zachary Goldenberg, a Navy Veteran, and Megan (Phillips) Goldenberg, both first generation farmers. Zach was born and raised a city boy until he met Megan, who insisted on having dogs, poultry, and a large garden at their rental property in an old Italian neighborhood in Rhode Island. MOST of the neighbors loved her since she showered them in fresh produce and eggs.

In 2014, while Zach was deployed in a submarine, Megan visited her mother in Saline, Michigan. During this visit, the property and house immediately across the street from where Megan grew up went up for sale. She walked across the street and put in an offer. Six months later, Megan had to tell Zach that she had bought a house and land in Michigan, and although you could see the neighbors, they were pretty okay.

Zach took to farm life quickly. Since 2014, the Goldenbergs have continuously managed a laying flock of hens, and batches of turkeys, ducks, and meat chickens while also raising children. Every year they plant more trees, perennials, pollinator gardens, and vegetables.

Now Megan working as the Michigan Climate Smart Farms project manager through Washtenaw County Conservation District. Zach is a Faculty Instructor at Washtenaw Community College, teaching robotics and power controls. Their children, Reuben, Jakob, and Ella, love playing in the dirt, growing flowers, and eating sweet corn.
