Holiday Recycling Program: What We Accept and How to Participate
As the holiday season wraps up, Goldfinch Farm is offering a sustainable way to dispose of your holiday greenery! We’re accepting certain items for composting and farm use, but it’s essential to follow our guidelines closely to ensure everything we receive is safe for our soil and animals.
What We Accept
We’re happy to take the following clean, green items:
Real Christmas Trees: Natural, untreated trees only. All decorations, tinsel, lights, and tree stands must be removed. Trees must not be painted, flocked, or chemically treated.
Natural Wreaths and Garlands: These must be free of wires, bows, glue, glitter, faux snow, or any other synthetic materials.
What We Cannot Accept
To protect our animals, compost, and farm environment, we cannot accept the following:
Trees or greenery sprayed with glue, glitter, or synthetic materials.
Painted, flocked, or chemically treated trees.
Artificial or synthetic trees.
Any wreaths or garlands that include glue or non-natural materials.
If you’re unsure whether your wreath or garland has been glued or treated, we ask that you please do not bring it. Please don’t risk harming our farm and animals.
Why Are These Rules Important?
Our goal is to recycle greenery safely by turning it into nutrient-rich compost and using it as enrichment for our goats and habitat for wild birds. However, glued or treated items can introduce harmful chemicals that pose risks to animals and the environment. By sticking to natural, untreated materials, you’re helping us ensure a clean and sustainable recycling process.
How to Participate
Check Your Materials: Double-check for any decorations, glue, glitter, or synthetic components.
Drop Off at Goldfinch Farm: Bring your greenery to 9770 Macon Rd, Saline, MI. Look for the designated drop-off area (signs will guide you).
Spread the Word: Encourage friends and neighbors to recycle responsibly!
Support: Tip your material handlers and invest in our future growth
Dates and Times
We’re accepting items now through January 4. Drop-offs are welcome during daylight hours.
